Text: Joshua 1:1-11
By the border of the promise, with one leg already in the promise, even as the challenges loom ahead, and the struggles become imminent, the Lord says severally to Joshua and to the people, "Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be dismayed, for I am with you."
These words are impregnated with meanings and are very apt for the moment in time. The Lord is saying:
I know you have been on this journey for a long time, forty years and counting
I know that your able leader, Moses, just passed
I know that there are many giant struggles before you and that you are no match for them.
I am sure that these words speak to many of us.
Now, listen to me, says the Lord:
Be strong and courageous: this is not the time to give up or be tired, your victory is just around the corner. Thus says the LORD, I am not tired, and certainly, I am not tired of you. Arise, and let’s match forward.
Be strong and courageous: don’t be discouraged because of the passing of Moses, your leader. I am your ever-present and never-passing leader, who has already passed on ahead of you. I am your life, let not death discourage you and so debar you of my promise.
Be strong and courageous: not because of the giant struggles before you, but because I am with you. You are strong and courageous because I am with you and will fight for you.
Psalm 46:7 says, The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. I want you to personalize this word, and say:
The Lord of hosts is with me; The God of Jacob is my refuge!
Let these words be your song, music, melody, and testimony throughout the year. Be strong and courageous. You can do it, just don't do it alone.
